I was in the middle of Type 2 Fun and there was no out. Only forward.
We hiked for 8 miles and still had 2 miles and 2000 feet of elevation to go to make it over the mountain pass. My pack weighed a third of my total body weight and I was miserable.
It was my crash course in the two types of FUN:
💡 Type 1 Fun is fun in the moment and results in ENJOYMENT. It may be temporary stress relief and you might have some fond memories, but the experience is generally fleeting.
💡 Type 2 Fun is an extreme challenge with an element of risk that often results in GROWTH. You look back on the experience with pride and gain a sense of accomplishment that lasts.
2020 has been The Year of Type 2 Fun.
Whether you got a promotion or a pink slip, started a business or folded one, the past 4 months have been a challenge.
We were unprepared for what we’re experiencing and now we’re tired and struggling.
No one knows what the future holds, but with one foot in front of the other, we will come out on the other side.
We’ll look back and marvel at our resilience and determination and we’ll be stronger because of it.
Just like the hike, there’s no OUT of Type 2 Fun. Just FORWARD.
